“The Issue of Water.” This is what Pope Francis has titled one of the first sections in his encyclical on the environment, Laudato Si’. In fact, it’s so important that water has a full section of its own in Chapter 1.
Have you ever stopped to think about water? I have to admit before I started reading Laudato Si’, I didn’t give it much thought. So many of us are blessed with endless, clean, flowing water, but unfortunately, that’s not the case for everyone, especially in undeveloped and under-developed countries.
Today, let’s do just that. Let’s pause for a minute to consider, pray and act on this issue of water. We may not be able to solve the world’s water problem during this challenge, but we can try to do our part. Small changes together can have a huge impact!
Today’s Day 2 Challenge:
Consider what your life would be like without clean, unpolluted water. How would your life be different? What difficulties would you face?
Pray
Pray today for those less fortunate who struggle for clean water and for their situation to be improved by all who have the ability to help, including us.
Act
BYORB: If you don’t already use a reusable water bottle, commit to it today. When you find yourself in need of water and you don’t have your reusable bottle, challenge yourself to go without until you can BYORB. (Not to the point of physical harm of course, but maybe just enough to remind you of how blessed we are to have one?)
If this seems too hard, start with one week or even just one day fully committed to using only your own reusable bottle.
