Recently a reader named Amy sent me a very nice message after reading my post titled, “Why I Quit Clinique for Good! (And Chose Green Products Instead).”
She wanted me to know that she’s also a “Clinique-quitter” and how much she now loves the new Young Living Savvy Minerals Makeup Line. She shared how good the Young Living products make her skin feel and that she hopes I would be willing to check them out.
I was so glad she reached out to me because I always appreciate learning about new natural and organic products and although I knew Young Living was adding new products, I didn’t realize they had created a cosmetics and facial line.

Some of Young Living Savvy Mineral Makeup doesn’t look too bad, except for its price. It’s double the Poofy Organics prices similar products.
Investigating Young Living’s Saavy Minerals Line and Personal Care Lines
At first, I was very excited to check out their new products, but once I took a closer look at their ingredients, I was a bit disappointed.
I was pleased to see that some of their makeup is pretty good, especially the mineral makeup including the foundations, blushes, and eyeshadows.
BUT, many of the other products in these new lines trouble me, not because they are necessarily “bad,” but I think they contain more concerning lab-manipulated ingredients than necessary, especially when you compare them to the similar Poofy Organics products.
The most troubling Young Living products include the lip gloss, mascara, and the facial care/personal care lines. I wouldn’t consider them the worst products out there, but they seem to have more ingredients than are really needed for effectiveness, some of which pose a health risk and environmental danger.

Unlike Young Living who uses a lab-manipulated version of some ingredients, Poofy Organics uses natural ingredients including organic coconut oil, organic grapeseed oil, organic jojoba oil, organic beeswax, and organic sunflower oil
Young Living Chooses Lab-Manipulated Compounds Versus Natural Ingredients*
I’m a label reader and the first thing that jumped out at me when comparing labels is the number of lab-manipulated ingredients included in Young Living products versus the natural form of the ingredients chosen by Poofy Organics.
For example, Young Living has chosen “Oleic/linoleic/linolenic polyglycerides” as the base for their lip gloss. This ingredient is not necessarily “bad,” but it is a compound made from natural oils, including sunflower oil, but isn’t exactly sunflower oil anymore. This means that Young Living purchases ingredients that have been changed from their natural state and combined with other ingredients to form a new compound in a lab.
By contrast, Poofy Organics has stayed with the organic form of the ingredients and the base for Poofy Organics lipgloss is made from the natural ingredients including organic coconut oil, organic grapeseed oil, organic jojoba oil, organic beeswax, and organic sunflower oil.

None of Poofy Organics products contain Tocopheryl acetate or any of the other non-essential, lab-manipulated ingredients found some of Young Living’s products.
Young Living’s Lip Gloss and Lip Balms Contains A Skin Toxicant*
Young Living’s lip gloss and lip balm do have one ingredient that really does bother me, Tocopheryl Acetate.
Tocopheryl acetate is a lab-created compound made from vitamin E and acetic acid. It is rated a 3 and is considered a “moderate hazard” on the EWG’s concern scale. Again, this is a lab product known to be a skin toxicant (allergen), has been found to cause tumors in animals, and is a suspected environmental toxin. Yikes!

The good news for Young Living fans is that the Tocopheryl acetate is near the bottom of their ingredient list, but once again, if you have a better choice, why take the risk and why introduce the toxin to your body and the water supply?
None of Poofy Organics products contain Tocopheryl acetate or any of the other non-essential, lab-manipulated ingredients found some of Young Living’s products, yet Poofy’s products are very effective and made with USDA certified organic ingredients.

Poofy Organics has a huge selection of cosmetics and colors, but costs HALF the price of Young Living’s Savvy Minerals Line!
Young Living Products Cost Almost Double Poofy Organics Cosmetics
So far, we know that Young Living products are not the worst products on the market, but in addition to using lab-created ingredients, their prices are much, much higher than Poofy Organics for less-desirable, lower-quality ingredients.
Young Living’s retail prices are simply crazy AND Poofy Organics retail prices are lower than Young Living’s Wholesale prices!

In addition to having great prices, Poofy Organics has a huge selection of cosmetic colors in comparison to Young Living’s makeup line.
Poofy Organics Cosmetics Have No Toxins and Offers More Colors
With all this being said, I also shared another reason with Amy about why I chose to stay with the Poofy Organics Makeup line over Young Living or any other makeup line.

What thoroughly researched Info! I am thankful you shared your findings, as it terribly complicated to know what make-up is truly nontoxic. I live in Canada. The exchange rate is sooo bad, then the shipping. I was wondering if you know of a Canadian brand of make-up that Is organic. Many thanks, again. Sincerely, Marlene
Hi Marlene, No I’m sorry, I don’t know much about Canadian products, but if I learn about some, I’ll be sure to pass along the info. Good luck!
